Born in Kansas in 1897, Amelia spent her childhood not sitting still. She climbed trees, hunted rats, explored new places and tried out the huge roller-coaster at the County Fair. "It's just like flying!" she told her younger sister. No surprise then, that Amelia became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. Hailed everywhere for her bravery, she took on other pioneering flights, met presidents and was given international awards. But there was one great adventure left: to fly solo around the world. Amelia took on the challenge in 1937.
