As the pandemic changes, kids are going back to activities, sports, camps, and school. While they are super excited for a return to normal life, they may also be feeling a little anxious as they return to old routines. Friendships also changed during the pandemic. Of course, kids are thrilled to see each other again. But, they may also be a little worried that their relationships may feel or seem different. All this means that children and tweens may need a little help as they learn how a) to understand and monitor their own feelings, b) to re-invigorate their rusty social skills, c) to get away from screens, and d) to think about getting vaccinated. Enter The Insanely Awesome POST Pandemic Playbook: A Humorous Mental Health Guide For Kids - a book that uses humor to engage and entertain kids, while teaching them useful scientifically-based skills and techniques. Reviews from The Insanely Awesome Pandemic Playbook: A Humorous Mental Health Guide For Kids: What I love about this book is that the language is pitch perfect for kids this age. It's funny and honest and the activities are fun, but it's also able to give kids self awareness and reassurance. It doesn't talk down to kids, it respects them and their feelings. This is a much-needed book right now - a way for kids to think about and process what is happening around them. It approaches a difficult topic, mental health, both in an accessible way, with humor, but also from a variety of aspects. It expresses what kids might be feeling in ways that make sense for their everyday lives, and also their lives pre- and after-COVID. I am so glad that this was written by two professionals with PhD's and illustrated by a girl having to navigate these waters along with the rest of us. I would recommend this book to anyone with children as a tool to first, let them laugh or at least smile at the jokes & illustrations. And to bring a subject matter that has crippled the world and divided our nation to a place where maybe kids don't feel so left out of the conversation. This book is great! As a mental health professional I can attest that some of the materials out there for kids are DARK. Not so here. It's funny, light but finds a way to circle in all of the issues kids are dealing with.
