For half of its life to date, the RSCM was based at Addington Palace in Croydon, a home that saw resident students, courses for church musicians of all ages and abilities, and which acted as the headquarters for the RSCM's worldwide activities in promoting excellence in church music. Those times are remembered with great affection by many of the musicians who worked and studied there. The authors of this book - a follow-up volume to their two books already published about the Chislehurst years and Sir Sydney Nicholson - have tapped a rich vein of reminiscences and anecdotes provided by former students and staff at Addington. With major contributions from former RSCM Director Harry Bramma, former Headquarters Choirmaster Martin How and former Warden Roy Massey, and with full access to the archives of the RSCM, the book is the nearest thing yet to a formal history of the RSCM.
