Waterford is located on the sunny south-east coast of Ireland. It is known affectionately as the Déise, derived from the Gaelic tribe that settled there around the fourth century. Waterford city is the oldest city in Ireland, having been founded by the Vikings in 914. Throughout the Middle Ages, Waterford was Ireland's second city, and continues as a key commercial and cultural centre in Ireland today.
